DS-2029 Application

The DS-2029 application serves as a crucial step in acquiring U.S. citizenship for a child born abroad to U.S. citizen parent(s). This application is essential for determining the eligibility of a child for a Consular Report of Birth Abroad of a U.S. Citizen (CRBA). The CRBA serves as proof of U.S. citizenship, but it is not a travel document and does not replace a passport.

To commence the application process, the parent(s), legal guardian(s), person(s) acting in loco parentis, or the child must follow specific steps. Before proceeding, it is vital to familiarize oneself with the instructions provided. Likewise also see the US Visa in Thailand main page.

Consular Report of Birth Abroad

First off, you fill out an application form. This form asks for information about the child, the parent(s), the exact time spent in the U.S.. Likewise time spent overseas while working for the U.S. Armed Forces or government.

Next, you have to promise that all the information you provided is true. You make this promise in front of a consular officer or a notary public, who are people authorized to witness oaths.

Lastly, a consular officer checks everything and gives the okay for the Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA). They fill in some details and sign a section to show they approve it. So, in a nutshell, the DS-2029 application is a step-by-step process where you have to follow instructions carefully and hand in all the necessary documents to prove a child’s eligibility for a CRBA.
