As of March 2026, the 300 THB tourism entry fee. This is the Thailand tourist tax. The officially referred to as the “Kha Yeap Pan Din” (literally: “stepping onto Thai soil”) fee. 1. The Finalized Fee Structure

Under the latest 2026 guidelines. This is the Thailand tourists tax. , the Thai government has settled on a tiered pricing model based on the mode of arrival:

Air Entry: 300 THB

Land/Sea Entry: 150 THB

Note: There were discussions in late 2025 about standardizing the fee to a flat 300 THB across all entry points, but the Ministry of Tourism currently maintains the 150 THB rate for land/sea to avoid over-burdening cross-border regional travelers. This is the Thailand tourist tax. 

2. Where Does the Money Go? (The 70/230 Split)

The fee is not merely a tax; it is designed as a self-funding safety net for the tourism industry.

70 THB (Insurance): This portion is allocated to a mandatory basic medical and accident insurance for every visitor. It covers medical emergencies up to a certain threshold (typically 500,000 THB for accidents) from the moment of entry.

230 THB (Infrastructure): This remainder is funneled into the Tourism Promotion Fund for the maintenance of popular sites (National Parks, historical ruins), upgrading public amenities (toilets, signage), and enhancing safety systems at major tourist hotspots.

3. Mandatory Exemptions (2026)

The 2026 framework explicitly exempts several categories of travelers from paying the fee:

Holders of Thai Work Permits: Foreigners legally working in Thailand do not pay.

Diplomatic Passport Holders: Official diplomatic personnel are exempt.

Transit Passengers: Travelers staying in Thailand for less than 24 hours (and not clearing immigration) are exempt.

Children: Infants/Children under the age of two.

Frequent Cross-Border Workers: Specific exemptions apply to residents of neighboring countries using “Border Passes” for daily trade.

4. The 2026 “Aviation Surcharge” Context

In addition to the tourist fee, travelers in 2026 should be aware of a separate hike in aviation-related costs. The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) increased the International Passenger Service Charge (PSC) from 730 THB to 1,120 THB in early 2026. This means the total “entry/exit” cost baked into an airline ticket has risen significantly this year.

5. Collection Methods

The government is utilizing a “Seamless Integration” strategy to avoid long queues at the border:

Air Travelers: The fee is automatically bundled into the price of your airline ticket (similar to a fuel surcharge or airport tax).

Land/Sea Travelers: Payment is collected via a dedicated Online Web Portal or mobile app prior to arrival, which generates a QR code to be scanned at the immigration checkpoint.

Kiosks: Physical payment kiosks are available at major land borders (like Aranyaprathet or Padang Besar) for those who did not pay online.
